Saturday night I went to one of my favorite hot spots in Silver Spring, MD: Quarry House Tavern

Now, a lot of people throw the term "dive bar" out around these parts.  It can generally be used to describe any place that has at least one person wearing thick black hipster glasses and beer for less than $6.  Quarry House has the atmosphere of a dark cave (there are zero windows), always has about 100 people over its fire safety occupancy, and has a stage where you can commonly find Rockabilly bands just killing it.  It is a true neighborhood bar with an amazing beer list (I just enjoyed a nice glass of New Belgium Ranger IPA) and a fun menu to choose from.  While many people go with the classic tater tots option, I went with the fried pickles.

They were magical.  Many in my dining party looked longingly at these babies.  I had to share because I don't think humans are supposed to eat this many fried pickles in one sitting.  I was then a hero to all.

Sunday morning I headed down to my favorite hot spot on the main line in Philadelphia, PA: Cotter/Pfeiffer Homestead

Now, most people rave about diners and fancy brunches out.  While I may not be that objective, I personally feel you haven't lived until you enjoyed a nice spread at this location.  Once I arrived, I was promptly made a delicious beverage that would put any independent coffee shop to shame.

While I sat helping in no way and enjoying my drink, a cutting board full of fruit was placed in front of me so I didn't die of hunger before the "main course" was presented to me.

The main course (for people who chose for no real explainable reason to not eat meat or eggs): some delicious blueberry pancakes and avocado toast.

Today's menu will be free coffee I get at work mixed with free tea I get at work (I am fighting off a cold mind you) and whatever I can scrounge up in my fridge when I get home.  Tis these delightful food memories that will get me through this godforsaken four day week.

  1. This makes me feel like a fancy person. Glad you enjoyed brunch! We'll have to do it again (with chocolate drizzle for our lattes this time!). Take it to the hoop you know?
